April 29th - We said good bye to Yum Yum today.

April 28th - We said good bye to Love Bug today. Momma no longer allows the kittens to snuggle with her. If they jump up to join her in the bed she hisses at them.

Silly Love Bug. I think she might be an undercover cat when she's not full of playfulness.

I'm waiting for my Meowmy to arrive to pick me up

I can sit here but I can't touch Momma. It's time for me to go home.

April 26th - We said good bye to Cutie Pie today. He's settled right in to his new home. His family sent us some evening photos.

April 24th - The kittens are doing very well post op with no bad reactions, no complications. We are starting to send them to their forever homes. Today Honey was picked up. She has been doing really well I do believe her surgery adventure has help her develop more confidence. She is going to join a resident rescue cat. She will enjoy having a brother to rub up against and chase toys with. He is an expert at ball retrieval perhaps he will teach her his ways.

Through the glass  door to see if they are awake yet...yep lol

April 19th - Today was alter surgery day. Dr. Wright said the kittens did exceptionally well.  They arrived home and crawled right onto my lap. Their tiny incisions look great. We are trying to keep them from being too active. They are all behaving like nothing happened to them at all. We will be watching them closely for the next few days for any sign of possible complication. They all look great as of bed time. Honey Bun and YumYum's families were able to visit with them this week before surgery. All the kittens loved having them visit and play.

"I'm so glad your home Cutie Pie. I missed you all"

Honey showing what all the kitten's look like. Pupils blown wide from the medication. Fur around her eyes showing signs of the lubricant put in the eyes to keep them moist while they are under anesthetic. Fur shaved on her from leg where she had her IV line.

YumYum's incision looks worse than it is because the red blood mixed with the glue and is preserved in the glue.

April 16th - Today is YumYum day. The reason its YumYum day is that I need to make up for her cruddy Birthday photos. I also think I may be under featuring her because I'm trying to correct for bias and not play favorites. I usually don't have a favorite as each kitten has things about it that I feel makes them a favorite. I love the qualities that makes each of them unique. With this litter YumYum has consistently been "my kitten". She has made herself my shadow and has attached herself to me unlike most kittens. When I enter a room she gets up and tries to come to me even when they are all sleeping. She is always right with me making me smile. YumYum is a wonderful well rounded outgoing girl. At first I thought she was dominate but watching her with her brother who is dominate I can see she couldn't care less. She is just that bubbly friendly kitten that wants to play and interact. She just craves stimulation and will play with whomever wants to play or will make her own playtime with toys if everyone is tired. She doesn't pester or play attack like Pie does. She doesn't need to prove dominance like Pie. So here are some better photos of YumYum,

April 14th - ten weeks birthday - Love Bug and Cutie Pie had their new families come to visit this weekend. The kittens are really enjoying play time.

April 12th - We are so busy playing. No one hides anymore and they all sleep out in the open. Honey will even just curl up in the middle of the floor to nap, lol. Cutie Pie is definitely the big boss now and the dominate kitten. We all went to the Vet for the first check up and vaccinations. They all did excellent.  Honey was buzzing the whole time but I think the experience gave her some confidence too. Dr. Gould checked them all over thoroughly. She was impressed by how solid and sturdy they were. She said they all have strong hearts and good lungs with no problems. We talked about Love Bugs tail and she feels it happened due to positional in utero development. she had it bent when the bones hardened.  She said all the kittens are at good weights. They had their blood drawn for surgery too. As I predicted the ones that gave the techs the most trouble were the most outgoing kittens. They had places to go and toys to play with, they didn't want to sit still o get blood drawn, lol.

Pretty Yum Yum

Pretty sure this is Honey

April 7th - nine weeks birthday - The kittens are starting to show signing that they are looking to bond. Love Bug Is doing very well. She is a little theif. She likes to get things and haul them  to a different location to invstigate them.  I just wathed her pick up Tom's crossword pen and run with it under the  coffee table. She showed it to Yum Yum thn took off to find something new, lol. She still has a healthy dose of caution which puts her behind Cutie pie for leadership. She allows me to hold her without struggling. Love Bug is back in my lap but sometimes she has to share it with Cutie Pie who is most often in it. Cutie Pie has really developed into a nice boy. He plays large and hard dominating the play field but he's also sweet and lap sits with me. He also allows me to hold him He has started talking quite a bit for a baby. He will go into th kitchen and call-howl over and over. lol. Yum Yum continues to be my little shadow. When I'm doing chores she's always right near me wanting to know what's going on. She is unflappable and a busy girl  who's always ready to play. She easily entertains herself. When I hold her she never struggles. Honey is also doing well. She needs warm up time to get going. She will watch play and allow her siblings to burn off energy before she enters the play. I've discovered she really likes small things. Her favorite toys is a string pulled across the floor. I often see her playing some tiny bit of something she finds on the rug. She allows me to pick her up and carry her but I can tell she is not as relaxed as the other kittens. She hasn't stayed on my lap but we are working on trying to show her its a comfortable place. I think its possible with time she will lap sit or at least sit close up. She falls asleep in the middle of the floor so I really don't think she is fearful. It seems more of a need to  be comfortable in a situation. She regularly plays in the middle of the melee after she warms up to the idea. She also runs and tackles her siblings taking the upper hand in the wrestling bout with a head lock. Honey Bun is definitely a momma's girl she will run to momma and rub on her. She loves when momma plays chase with her.

April 2nd - I've been watching Honey more closely. She is making progress. She is staying out in the room more and playing. Noises are not as startling to her.  Her maturity is coming along. Yesterday she went and sat under the dining room table and yelled .LOL she wanted someone to come play with her. Her three siblings were playing rough and crazy in the living room with me. Momma was sitting with me on the sofa. Momma wasn't responding. So I called back to Honey to come play in here. She continued to yell. I got up and went to the doorway from the kitchen and said come in here and play with us. She just looked at me like "go away" lol. I walked around to the front hall and sat on the rug and rattled some toys. I rolled a ball toward her and she was trying to look at me with a "go away" look but she clearly couldn't resist playing. She really wanted another cat not me. I moved away and she yelled again. This time momma came to see what was up. Honey was very happy She ran at momma and jumped her. She ran back and forth trying to get momma to play chase. She went up on the first stair and jumped momma from between the rails. I think Yum Yum would be very happy to live with one other cat but no more than one. She may be the sensitive kid that wants a friend and the right one is enough.

I swept all the toys from under the cabinet and sofa, lol

Sleeping behind the sofa. I guess Yum Yum got the short straw & had to be the pillow. lol

Honey playing with a mouse and a fur ball. You can see she doesn't bolt when Tom unexpectedly drops a book. A week ago she would have.

Honey playing with YumYum in the ball box

March 31st - eight weeks birthday - The kittens continue to do well. They enjoy playing and are ever busy when awake. Yum Yum continues to be her ever outgoing self. She has been consistently the kitten sleeping in a sofa bed when everyone else is behind the sofa for nap time. With that confidence come a bit of a stinker too. She had a hard lesson in "don't bite " this Wednesday. We really haven't seen biting from any of the kittens so this was a surprise and she was strong willed about it. I have one of those plush lap throws on the sofa and the cats like to sleep on it. Yum Yum started biting and pulling the fabric. I had to bop her nose gently and hiss at her like a momma cat would. I looked her in the eyes and said 'no bite'. She challenged me multiple times but in the end she learned it was not allowed and she went off to play. Then Thursday she snuggled up next to me under my arm and startled nuzzling me. Then she nipped the underside of my arm. I said 'no bite' firmly and she stared into my eyes. She knew it was wrong. She has been good since, lol.

Sister Bug my ever present lap baby hasn't had time to sit with me lately. She is off being busy or watching for her chance to get in on the playing. She is no longer # 2 in dominance. Pie has taken the roll of  playing hard with Yum Yum. Bug is still struggling with her confidence a bit, which surprises me. Pie has bull dozed his way into the lime light. He has a mission to play and he is right in the thick of it running over everyone else, lol. Miss Honey wants to play so badly, she loves chasing, she loves toys that move. She just really dislikes getting beat up either intentionally or unintentionally by the gang so she hangs back. We are seeing progress and I think Momma is trying to help. She has been chasing and play attacking them when they go into crazy mode. Honey tends to look like she is uncomfortable staying in safe zones but when they are all asleep she is the one who is most relaxed. Its really a funny contradiction. Instead of being curled up and protective she will be draped all over everyone completely stretched out, full tummy exposed. Not an ounce of concern or need to feel protective at all. I think she will do really well as an adult. She may not be at the door to greet strangers but she will bond closely and thrive in a comfortable environment. She is so playful when she gets the chance to play. Right now I think she finds her crazy siblings overwhelming. That being said she is off playing with them, just not quite in the thick of the melee. I can see them in the hall playing.  Honey just ran in from the side and smacked at them as she went past, lol. I was just reminded by her lyrical tones that Honey has the most adorable trilling voice. She uses it to call others to her. and when the kittens start tiring and she gets her chance to play she happily trills are she runs about playing. She was trilling like crazy the night she found her way up onto the sofa. Both Honey and Pie saw their reflection in the window, from the back of the sofa, and thought it was another cat. Yum Yum and Bug have been unaware.

On a sunny day. We need more of those, lol

I was getting out some of my Easter decor lol

She had to try on both colors

Honey was first up on the sofa and first to discover her reflection looking back at her.

She puffed up with concern that a stranger was looking in.

I talked her back down to calm and the next night she was fine looking in the window.

Then Pie found his way up and he had the same reaction.

I'm big and I'm bad!

March 24th - seven weeks birthday - The kittens are doing well with their newly expanded space. Still seeing uncertainty to the unknown and some known depending on the circumstances. They are still a bit on edge. Honey continues to be a beautiful demure lady. She seems a bit overwhelmed by her siblings. I've called her out. She seems to know her name and comes out to play but getting into the thick of play is not her thing, yet. I don't know if it will ever be. She is happy to play and likes to play. She likes being pet too. I think she will do well with a homebody who will take the time to get to know her and bond closely with her. The biggest change I've seen this week is in Pie. He's really come into his own. Bug is still a little bit cautious and Yum Yum is as always right out in it all. Pie and Yum Yum seem to be pairing up this week. Momma has also gone back into heat this week which was a bit confusing to the kittens. Momma's gone crazy a bit, lol. We are also seeing weights over two pounds so we will stop the weighing. They are all doing great and those not at 2 will quickly get there too. The recommended inclusion for early spay/neuter is 8 weeks, 2 pounds. We are doing very well with our kitten weights. We prefer ten weeks for our kittens.

When a kitten meows too much momma thinks there's a problem and comes to the rescue. This happens a lot to Honey when she sits in the kitten room and calls for someone to come back to be with her. Momma or I bring her out to the living room.

Wrangled by Momma for meowing too much. Poor Pie.

"I'm done playing no but I made this toy better. See I spindled the corner. Doesn't it look nice?" YumYum

March 20th -  The kittens all made it out to play in the living room for the first time today. There were lots of new smells and areas for them to explore and get used to. This is the first time all four have come into the room. It was a funny morning for Pie. He was in Honey's corner and Honey was out on the cat tree. He acted all scared like he was going to bolt for the hidey hole. I gave him pets, held him and put him down on the floor. Then he took off and was running all over the house all full of confidence, lol. He and Bug were playing on the cat tree in the kitchen making momma crazy lol. Being able to come out and play is when the kittens get a big confidence boost. Each now experience helps build the up. I've been opening the doors everyday but they all haven't chosen to explore until today. Yum Yum was leaping and jumping for the feather toy even. This is a skill they usually have to learn. She is a natural.

Bug loves to sit in the hole in my legs.

March17th -six weeks birthdayHappy St. Patrick's Day!  The kittens are dealing well with their new "I'm afraid of everything" phase. When they discover the world is bigger than they ever imagined if gives them a bit of extra caution until experiences catch up and equal it out. The order of caution strength is YumYum, Bug, Pie and then Honey. Honey is having a much harder time. She wants to hide sometimes. She is doing pretty well rebuilding her bravery though. She was out and about playing today. She takes a bit of time to warm up and doesn't like being surprised. Their faces are starting to mature. Bug's face changes surprise me the most. Her face has slimmed down. Pie's face has become wider. The contrast between him and Honey when they stand together is striking given how much they looked alike as toddlers..

March 8th - five weeks birthday - The kittens are doing very well and are very active between naps.

I've been watching Cutie Pie and he is such a funny goof. I think it may be that because he sat and watched the others when they were small. He didn't develop the same skills at the same time. So now he appears clumsy as he works on developing his skills as a bigger kitten. He's slow to get started but can be a brute once he's going. I watched him jump on every toy one after and other and run head first into the cat tree. He really didn't see the carpet covered perch and hit it with his head. He was so focused on where he was going. He's very good at climbing up and down the condo. He was the first to figure out the safe way down. Despite his reserve I've watched him become the attacking aggressor today in playing with the other kittens. It will be interesting to see if he can leave behind his slow start and take over as the dominate cat or if he will continue to be sensitive and hang back. He's slower to chase and his movements are not as refined as YumYuim's.

Yum Yum is a refined little package, fast and very tight in her movement. She's got mad play skills. Toys won't get away from her. She freaked her siblings out last night when she found her growl, lol. We were playing and she got a toy in her mouth and started growling and pulling on it. She is such a contrast to her big brother Cutie Pie. I left the run gate open today and Yum Yum went off exploring all by herself when she saw the door as open. Momma freaked out but I talked to her and she sat back and watched Yum Yum and gave her the space she wanted. She never left the hall and she came back on her on.

Bug is pretty on top of her game. She is more of a bonding kitten in my opinion.  She is pretty much an all around good guy cat. She takes on all comers and has a good play with everyone. Her energy is a little more quite than Yum Yum's. Yum Yum wants to be in the center of everything, Bug wants to be there too but if she's not the center she's good too. She will go off on her own and do her own thing.

Honey Bun is sort of a middle child type. She tends to hang back a bit but given the stage she will take the attention and really enjoy it. She has a really silky coat. I love petting her. She loves to chase moving toys, loves balls and will play soccer with them. She is a little bit more reserved than Bug. She can be overwhelmd by Yum Yum and Bug when they get to play fighting.

I'm looking forward to seeing how my observations of them change as they grow and start to play out in the main part of the house as they mature more. First we have to be sure everyone has mastered the litter box and knows how to go back to it when needed. They are all doing very well moving to that stage of development.

I notice this week that I need to find unique cues to use with photographs to tell these kitten apart, lol. They all love to play in the hole in my lap. I'm having a hard time with who is who if I can't see the color mark. I will try to do better with next weeks birthday photos.

bi-weekly weigh in......Everyone is over one pound. Good gains from moving to solid food.

Love Bug  is 1 lb.  6.5 ounces = 640 grams - up  107  grams

Cutie Pie is 1 lb. 6.75 ounces = 648 grams - up 100 grams

Yum Yum is 1lb 1.25 ounces = 491 grams - up 93 grams

Honey Bun is 1 lb. 3.4 ounce = 552 grams - up 67 grams

March 7th - Today I had kittens in my lap as usual and was playing with them. The kitten I was working with bit on my finger with some pressure but not really hard. I made a little noise and she looked at me then licked my finger like she was sorry. In my mind I thought it was Bug. I looked up and Bug was in the nest in front of me. This was Yum Yum, she's learning to be sensitive to how she treats others. :) I think right now she is a pretty bomb proof kitten. When I came in with a plastic bag to change out the litter  none of them were scared. Three kept their distance and eyed me but Yum Yum with her usual enthusiasm ran up. Changing the litter is usually scary the first time. But she didn't seem to care at all. She sat near by waiting for me.

A new toy is introduced

It's nap time

March 6th - The kittens are growing up so fast. Yum Yum used the litter box today. All of the kittens have been eating kibble and we expect them to all start using the litter in the next day or two. We have seen no accidents at all. Pie climbed up to the first level of the cat tree.  Bug climbed up the condo last night and was fascinated by the big window. They are working on learning bite limits. Yum Yum has been pretty aggressive and biting hard. I've allowed her to bit on my finger so I can yelp and tell her no. The other kittens were staying away from her. I think because she wasn't listening to them. Bug bit onto the underside of my arm after she had been play fighting with Yum Yum. I yelped automatically, lol, It surprised both me and Bug. She seems quite moved by my response. She seemed ashamed and was very quite for some time after. I held her and talked to her so she knew it was okay. Momma has been holding onto them and biting them too, helping to teach them. This is a really important time for them to learn to be gentle in play. I've since allowed Bug to bite on my fingers in play and she has been very gentle. If I make a soft yelp she always looks me in the eyes then licks me. I think she is sensitive to how to behave now. They seem to have paired up by personality type too. Yum Yum and Love Bug are most often together and Honey Bun and Cute Pie are together. I see Honey and Bug together sometimes too.

Of the four kittens Yum Yum is the go getter and the most out going. She  and Bug are the first to run to me when I enter the room. As all the kitten run out of energy and settle down to nap yum yum still wants to go. Yum Yum is closely followed by Bug who is also out going but has a quieter energy level. Then comes Honey She is also outgoing but is a little more reserved to new things. Pie is the most sensitive. He is currently a Momma's boy. He loves being at Momma side. He is sensitive to new things and takes a little bit of time to warm up to them being "safe" He puffs up easily. But un-puffs just as quickly. It will be interesting to see how he grows out of this as he gains more experience. I think he will always be sensitive and concerned for others. Its his gentle  personality. Be ware this is my perception of them right now. As they develop this may change as they gain  experience.

A favorite place to be is in the hole of my crosse legs.

That's Yum Yum on the left and Bug on the right.

bi-weekly weigh in...... We have move to weighing twice a week so the gains are larger. The kittens are all reaching one pound except for Yum Yum. She is a petite kitten and I am not at all worried about her. When you see them in person you can see that she is smaller boned and all her features ar smaller. She is going to be a petite pixie. he has pixie energy and is interested in everything.

Love Bug  is 1 lb. .2.75 ounces = 534 grams - up  71  grams

Cutie Pie is 1 lb. 3.25 ounces = 505 grams - up 42 grams

Yum Yum is 14 ounces = 390 grams - up 39 grams

Honey Bun is 1 lb. 1 ounce = 484 grams - up 64 grams

They run to me and can't wait to get on my lap and play on the hole.

Yum Yum determined to use the end of the scratchier to walk on

I think she will be a muscular acrobat

Honey Bun and Cutie Pie

March 4th - The kittens no longer feel the need to be protected in the cabinet. They are sleeping out in the open. I believe I saw Honey eating kibble. I need to remark them so their colors are bolder from a distance. I can tell them apart when I'm holding them but just looking when I'm standing i harder, lol. Yum Yum spent a lot of effort trying to stand up on the narrow edge of the wave scratchier today. She is going to get it. They are all eyeing the uprights on the cat tree they want to climb. It won't be long before they figure it out. They seem to be biting very gentle for now. I haven't heard any cries....yet.

They really were sleeping like this. That's Honey sound asleep under and Yum Yum on top.

March 3rd - Four Weeks Birthday - Looking at the wigh gains its possible all the kittens are eating some kibble and I just haven't seen it. Nice gains. This is our last daily weigh in. Now that they are moving to kibble we will weigh them bi-weekly on Sunday and Wednesday. The differences in point color tend to be camera - lighting - contrast issues. In person they all look warm milk chocolate

March 1st - Today we expanded the run area, added in the training litter box so that we can introduce food. Added in the low baby bowls with Baby cat kibble and water. Yum Yum was out and about ith me talking up a storm. She went right to the food and had a small taste. I later placed each kitten at the bols but no one else was interested. It may be because while Yum Yum was out with me they were all nursing. Bug came out but she like to call when out and Momma hauled her back. I'm glad Yum Yum is interested in Kibble it looks like Pie ate Yum Yum's share of Momma's milk today. Hopefully Yum Yum will start eating food and gaining weight better.

February 24th - three weeks birthday -  We seem to have two facial looks. The rounder faces of  Love Bug and Yum Yum, and the modified wedge of  Cutie Pie and Honey Bun. Or is it the shape of the  eyes that cause the difference in the look? They are too young to tell yet.  It will be interesting to watch how they change as they develop.

Cutie Pie hopping out and surprising himself.

February 23rd -  The kittens are licking every textured surface and I learned their canines are in when one chomped on my finger in response to my tickling its tummy. lol  The biting games will soon begin. They teach each other why gentle is important at this stage. Our son's came to visit today and Cutie Pie really liked snuggling with our eldest. I suspect it was Pie's full tummy that made him want to rest though. Yum Yum is a little sprite of a kitten. She was out exploring all over. Sliding her back feet on the floor like it was ice, lol. She will build up those muscles in no time. She is so very curious.

February 22nd - We moved into the corner cabinet nest. and set up the run. The kittens are all so outgoing. They are running around and exploring. Momma is so nervous she keeps hauling one back in to be with her. Cutie Pie is only to happy to stay back and nurse for her. Looks like Yum Yum is spending too much time running around and not enough time eating, lol

February 20th - I've been waiting for our boy to pull ahead in weighing in. It looks like he's on his way to biggest kitten. We introduced a ball because Love Bug is seeking out stimulation. She's not paying much attention to it yet. I noticed that Honey Bun has a really silky coat. Slick like satin.

February 19th - Momma Grainne has not wanted to move the kittens yet but the kittens are on the move.  We may have to make the decision to move for momma so Love Bug can explore more safely. She is a calm and confident baby and wants to go, go, go. I think Cutie Pie must have spent all his time eating.

February 17th - Two Weeks Birthday - The kitten all had their nails trimmed for the first time. They all were so good allowing me to trim them. They have become much more alert. Tom walked in last night talking to me and Yum Yum not recognizing his voice called out. It was so cute. He's usually talks quietly not wanting to disturb them but this time he talked normally. He kept talking so that they would become familiar with his sound. Of the four kittens Love Bug has the closest baby coat, Yum Yum is next and Cutie Pie and Honey Bun have fluffier looking coast. This has to do with the top coat and under coat. Kittens lose these baby coats and get in adult coats. Sometimes if offers insight but other times the baby coat is unrelated to the adult coat. Its a very small difference that's hard to se unless your looking for it. I believe we have three females and one male. I think Cutie Pie is our boy. I scrolled back to the photos and I can see the extra space on Cutie pie there too.

Momma is much more relaxed about me holding them and can sit relaxing in the nest while watching me weigh and love on them, even when they call out. Weight gains continue to be good.

The room is kept at 85 degrees so the kittens don't ned to huddle for warmth.

They can't produce their own warmth when newly born. Being cold is the leading cause of neonatal kitten death.

February 8th - five days old - There are no stand out color hints in this litter. I suspect that means we have a full litter of chocolates. Valentines chocolates, ha ha.  The kittens all lost their cords yesterday and we are seeing their eyes opening. The eyes and ears of kittens are closed when born. Their eyes won't be able to see well at all until the eyes finish developing. Right now they just look black.

I've taken some sexing photos for those who want to try to guess the sex of each kitten. I will reserve judgment until they develop a bit more.

Yum Yum still wanting more milk

February 5th - two days old - No photos today. Momma is just too worried when I'm in the room. She can't relax. The few times I checked in I made sure to put Yum Yum onto a nipple. We also went and bought kitten milk replacer just in case. I'm really happy to see a nice weight gain in Yum Yum tonight. Perhaps the unopened can of milk will be the insurance that we won't need it.

evening weigh in......

Love Bug  is 4,6 ounces = 131.7 grams - up  10.7  grams

Cutie Pie is  3.9 ounces = 110 grams - up 7.1 grams

Honey Bun is 3.9 ounces = 110 grams - up 14.2 grams

February 4th - one day old - Momma is very protective today and doesn't want me messing with her babies. Its too early. When I came in to weigh them she tried to cover them with her head and paws so I wouldn't take any. She knows I won't hurt them but for now she needs them to be all hers.  They were not fussy at all being handled :) Its not surprising that Yum Yum gained the least. I'm very happy to see that gain. Yum Yum has to fight against larger siblings for a share. I'll be keeping a close watch to be sure Yum Yum doesn't fall behind. We can supplement if necessary but I don't want to interfere with them getting colostrum or the demand for milk that determines supply right now.
I'm not going to stay up until 1am to weight them so this first weigh in is a bit less than a full day. It was done at 8 pm. We will continue with 8pm weigh ins going forward.

evening weigh in......

If we're awake we're eating!

February 3rd- Birth Day - Grainne started showing signs of labor around 3 pm. Around 6:30 we went to her birthing box and I sat with her stroking her tummy waiting for active labor to begin. She started active contractions around 11:20pm. The first kitten presented tail and feet first. A worrisome position. Ideally they should be head first but if they come backwards you want the butt. She did great after ten minutes of pushing with each contraction she delivered it unaided. It made noises right away. I wiped its face a bit. The placenta did not follow.  Its best to keep the kitten's umbilical cord intact until the placenta is expelled too.  Its really important not to pull on the cord when placentas are not been expelled naturally. If it is still attached to the mother you can tear it loose and cause her to hemorrhage and bleed out. If placentas are ever not expelled they need to be surgically removed so as not to cause infection. It's really important to keep track of them.

At  11:50pm with only one or two contractions kitten two delivered head first. Now we have two kittens on cords and no placentas. This became a bit problematic with only an inch or two space from their cords momma was moving to try to get away from them so she could see them and clean them better but they moved with her. We made the decision to cut the cord on kitten one to help her settle. We will watch for the placentas. Kitten one weighs 3 3/4 ounces and is marked with aqua on its hip and under its armpit. Momma is less likely to remove the armpit marker. It's our emergency back up identifier, lol. We mark them all so we can track their weight and make sure all are thriving.  Kitten one's tip of the tail is bent. One placenta was expelled attached to kitten 2.  I allow Grainne to eat the vitamin and mineral rich placenta. Grainne now rests. I can feel more kittens. Kitten 2 weighs 3 1/4 ounces and is marked purple.

Contractions begin again and quickly kitten 3 is delivered at 12:30am. I missed how it presented, head first was my impression after the fact.  The placenta followed not to long after. Kitten 3 looks thin it was probably conceived a little later that the first two. It didn't have as much time to fatten up. It's very hungry. All the kittens are very actively pursuing nipples for nursing.  Still worrying about that first placenta. At 12:40 kitten 4 presents butt first. I take the three kittens and snuggle them in a warm towel on my lap.  Kitten 3 weighs 2 5/8 ounces and I mark it with hot pink.

Kitten 4 delivers at 12:50am with no assistance. No placenta one or four. Grainne is having a hard time and keeps moving to try to move away from the kitten. After 15 minutes we decide to cut it's cord. At this time we decide to exchange the wet bedding and make it fresh and dry for her. Momma relaxes and cleans kitten 3 and 4 again with all the kittens back nursing with her. We wait and worry for two placentas. Finally at 1:15 the two remaining placentas are expelled. Kitten 4 weighs 3 ounces. I marked him orange just in case there is another kitten. I sat with her until 2:30am and felt fairly sure she was done. Four is our final count. We will not continue the orange mark. Its unnecessary kitten 4 will be white, no mark..

Nursing and a kinked tail

January 30th - We can feel the kittens moving about. Grainne loves lounging on me and getting tummy rubs. Its all she wants to do. If I'm not sitting on the couch with her she is calling to me to get there now, lol.

November 26th, 2018 - We are breeding Grainne to Polo this week.
